Pedernales State Park
When the weather app says cold snap,
you pull out a sweater and wool socks
and even a hat – you are optimistic
about this – and you drive to the state park
after work, with the intention of sleeping
under crisp stars and drinking coffee
by the river when the sun comes up.
And when the optimism pays off –
when the snap is indeed so cold
that you have to curl up tight (a pill big
in a mummy bag) and watch from there
as a tiny fox crosses your campsite?
You know it’s a sign of something good
