Typewriter Rodeo: Perfect book, perfect kid

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Perfect book, perfect kid

Each book is perfect

to someone

just like each kid

is perfect to someone

but how to find the perfect book

for that perfect kid?

The book they’ll stay up late for,

hold to their chest,

think Wow,

it’s not just me

it all makes sense

now

is there a sequel?

There has to be

a sequel

Search through shelves,

scroll through blogs,

ask the experts

try this, try that

there’s no formula

just time

just care

just staring deep into

that perfect kid’s

possibly bored eyes

till you find that glimmer

of something

that glimmer that says

this is who I am

under the armor

this is how you start to turn

the page.
