Typewriter Rodeo: Please, Take it Easy

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Hustle and bustle are two words often associated with the holiday season. Before the turkey is even consumed, often the Christmas lights are up, and then, before you know it, there are only two shopping days left. This poem invites us to slow down.

Please, Take it Easy

Breathe, breathe
Because I refuse to believe
That we just witnessed the fall of leaves
And next thing we know, it’s already spring

Breathe, breathe
Take these moments in peace
When else do we intentionally make time
For mankind to make joy and reprieve?

These months are for the quiet
Loud families and awkward silences
Full bellies and making new alliances

We all rely on this, so don’t let
the holidays slip away
Give your gifts, find your grace
Breathe, breathe along the way
