Typewriter Rodeo: Political Bumper Stickers

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Pundits may argue about whether political bumper stickers have any impact on the way people vote. But you would probably agree that seeing those stickers – well, some stickers – on a car in front of you can provoke strong feelings.

Political Bumper Stickers

Some you see

And they bring you delight —

Oh yeah that’s perfect

They get it just right.

Some are for candidates you totally dispise

And you glare at that sticker

With laser-hate eyes

Others implore you

VOTE FOR PROP 2!

But fail to mention

What that prop will do

And some are relics

Worn and faded with love

Like the one I still have:

“Ann Richards for Gov”

And of course we’ve all been there

The one that gives that bad flavor

And as yo flip them the bird —

Oh crap, that’s my neighbor.
