Typewriter Rodeo: Polls

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on the news.

National polling firm Gallup announced it won’t be polling for the Presidential election in 2016. Watching poll numbers fluctuate inspired this week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem by Jodi Egerton.

The Polls

Daily tickers rattle off spots

Up a point, down two

Rarely stasis, always flux

They know who’s going to win, it’s true

We watch the numbers with bated breath

We hope our candidate rises

But oh, the latest numbers in

And we’ve got some gloomy surprises

We think the power’s with the person

Who wins the presidential line

But in truth, it’s those who write the questions

And those few who still answer their landline.
