Typewriter Rodeo: Prom

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

It’s a rite of passage for many high schoolers, and often a fun and festive marker of the end of the school year. Some kids go all out with elaborate outfits, limos and afterparties, while some decide to bow out. Prom is just one night, but the stories about it often endure for much longer.

Prom

Dress up in your finest

With sparkle and shine

Step out into the night

This is your time!

Maybe start with a dinner

At a super-fancy place

Maybe hop in a limo

With a smile on your face

Then get to the dance

Race out onto the floor

Or maybe play it cool

And just hang by the door

Drink some punch

Scan the crowd

Meet with friends

Laugh out loud

Yup school’s almost over

Tonight you’ll party and shine

Then step out into the world –

This is your time!
