Typewriter Rodeo: Re-Socializing

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Opening up, going out, meeting up. Many of us haven’t used those phrases or experienced those situations much before now. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

This whole past year
Or more (what is time?)
I didn’t get out much
And to be honest, I was fine

I had great conversations
With all of my plants
I never worried
How I looked in pants

I tuned into Zoom
And got into that flow —
Business up top
Casual below

I got snuggle time
From family and pets
And at buying online
I was the best!

But now, it seems
I must go out of this place
And talk to other people
Um, face-to-face?

Will each joke attempt
Be fraught with dramas?
Will I still be comfy
Not wearing pajamas?

Will I even remember
How to do a high five?
Or to look for traffic
When I drive?

But I guess we’re all
Diving back in
And I can try to be perfect
Or just — begin.
