Typewriter Rodeo: Resowhat?

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

It’s the time of year when many people try to reset, make ambitious goals, or aim to try something new — or not. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Resowhat?

I resolve not to resolve anything
at all
ever
until other things get resolved.
except those things
are out of my control
and thus unresolvable
so that’s no resolution
at all.
Really, I just want to get to
the next minute
the next hour
the next breath
the next light
of day
and when each minute feels like
an hour
and each hour feels like
a day
and each day
a year
putting one foot in front of
the next
is the only reliable
resolution
one can make.
I resolve
to make it
to the other side of now
and I resolve
to congratulate you
for resolving
to do the same.
