Typewriter Rodeo: Running For Office

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

It seems like everyone in the U.S. Senate is running for president – at least those on one side of the aisle. The debate stage might need a second row of podiums with all the Democratic candidates. And further down the ballot, plenty of newcomers want to be in Congress, or even on city council. Have you thought about running?

Running for Office

Congratulations! We need you,

yes, YOU

to lead us to the future.

and you, too!

also, are YOU interested?

I bet you are!

no qualifications?

we’re ALL qualified?

have you held office before

doesn’t matter!

it’s a new world

It’s a new strategy,

a new plan

for a new day,

YOU get to run

and run and run

and so does he

and so does she

and that guy right there

and also your mom,

we’re all in it to win it

we’re all going to save

the day

just prep for that ballot

the one coming soon

it’s going to be sixty

five pages long,

and one of those pages

will star YOU

(and you

and you

and you

and you, too)
