Typewriter Rodeo: Slow Down Summer

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

It is already almost August?! Didn’t summer just begin?! That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Slow Down Summer

Hey whoa wait

Didn’t you just begin?

How is it already

Near the end?

Has this searing heat

Sped up time?

Or all that cold beer

With a slice of lime

‘Cuz yeah it was hot

But school was out

And that Mopac traffic?

Better without doubt

All those days at the Springs

And greenbelt hikes

Paddle boards and kayaks

Trails and bikes

Summer please don’t leave

You’ve been such a blessing

And worst of all when you’re done

The government’s back in session.
