Typewriter Rodeo: Soup Weather

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

In some parts of Texas, it’s getting just cold enough to do cozy, indoor things that would be unthinkable during summer. Think warm socks, fires and a piping hot bowl of chicken noodle or pozole. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Soup Weather

That chill

Rolls in

The one that’s been missing

For most of the year

During the sweltering summers

And the just mildly-less-sweltering

Early fall

When you barely even want to heat

Your coffee

For fear of making the a/c

Work harder

But now

Ahhhhhh

Settle in

Slip on those fuzzy slippers

And that soft flannel

And wrap your hands around

That steaming bowl

Let the aroma take you

And fill you up

Because that’s what good soup

Can do –

Fill you

Warm you

And just soothe you

All with one

Sip.
