Typewriter Rodeo: Summer Kids

Each week, the Texas Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on a relevant headline or topic.

It’s hot outside and it’s reached that point in summer vacations when, admit it or not, most kids are getting a little bored and ready to get back to school. That was the inspiration for this week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem by Sean Petrie.

SUMMER KIDS

Hey kids, it’s summer!

Let’s go out and play!

No homework or STAAR tests

The fun starts today!

Hey wait, where you going?

Come back here, don’t slouch

You can’t spend all summer

With Cheetos on the couch

Let’s hit Barton Springs

Hey don’t make me shout!

I’m talking to you

Take those two earbuds out!

Stop playing Minecraft

And Call of Duty too

The outdoorz is calling

Fine– I’m leaving you

I’m going outside

You’ll be sorry, you’ll see!

… Okay, I’m back

Hey, turn up that a/c…
