Everyone has their own way of relaxing and gaining perspective: meditating, listening to music, or sitting in a favorite chair with a cup of tea. Sometimes you just need to sit and ponder life’s questions and forget about the daily routine. Today’s poem is for all of us who need to stop and think, tables included.

Table That Thought

once upon a time

there was a table
that suddenly
began to think

this was unusual,
in the table’s experience

it could not recall
any previous occurrences

but then,
(thought the table)

being so new (or so it appeared)
to thinking

there was probably a lot it didn’t know

maybe once a day, every day
(like clockwork)

it forgot everything

every single thing

and maybe that had just happened to it

the table was quite philosophical

for a brand-new thinker

and also for a table
