Typewriter Rodeo: Texas Road Trip!

Each week, the Texas Standard is reaching out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on a relevant headline or topic.

Millions of Texans are hitting the roads this weekend for Memorial Day. Soon, it’ll be time for the Texas road trip – you know, where you drive ten hours and are STILL in Texas! That was the inspiration for this week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem by Sean Petrie.

TEXAS ROAD TRIPPING

Oh so soon, into summer we’ll slip

And that means one thing: Texas road trip!

Perhaps up to Dallas, watch the Rangers in style

And for that Ft Worth art, go the extra mile

Or maybe far west, to Marfa, Big Bend

Out there, at night, the stars never end

Of course there’s Corpus, and Galveston Bay

Go fishing, or swimming, or just beach it all day

And the piney woods beckon, over to the east

Go hunting, go hiking, have a crawfish feast

If you’re looking rural, try Pampa, or Dimmitt

Or Sargent, Refugio — the sky’s the limit!

There’s so many sights, and miles to roam

That’s why we’re so lucky, to call Texas, home.
