Typewriter Rodeo: Texas Weather

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Is the weather forecast the most eventful part of your local TV newscast? Well, p’ardner, you must live in Texas, where the weather changes at the drop of a ten-gallon hat.

Texas Weather

Oh it can roll in

Not like fog (what’s that?)

But more like a thick comforter

Of humid

        Ready to wrap you

In a sweaty sheen

No matter how high you’ve cranked

The a/c

And it can pour down

In a fierce flash

The sky splitting

The air trembling

A storm to put all waterfalls

To shame

And it can clear

In a quick instant

The clouds retreating

Overtaken by bold brilliant blue

Like the very air

Is as clean

As your spirit feels

And you watch

As that sun sets

In an impossible mix of orange, purple,

And pink

A curtain on the greatest show

On earth

Ready to do it all again

Tomorrow.
