Typewriter Rodeo: The Best Therapy

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

How many times have begun a sentence with “it’s been a tough year” — or year and a half…? For some folks, the saving grace has been an animal friend — or a few of them. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

The Best Therapy

We finally did it
Added to roster —
We went to the shelter
And decided to foster!

First we got a pit
Who was friendly and good
He just wanted some snuggles
And was misunderstood

Then a chihuahua
So prancy and proud
And so full of love
Who cares if she’s loud

Then, oh then,
A whole host of kittens!
Them: so tiny
Us: so smitten

And while the state of the world
Might have us down
It’s hard not to smile
With them all around

The best therapy there is
Is just letting them roam
We all just want cuddles
And a home.
