Typewriter Rodeo: The Great Resignation

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

The pandemic changed life as it once was. Many lost jobs. Others began remote work. Everyone took stock of what was most important. Even two years in, we’re still seeing a workforce that’s not back to “normal.” That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

The Great Resignation

What happens when the world stops
& all we have is time
to ourselves
Priorities shift
what’s important becomes clear
brief cases get put
on shelves
Then, who are we?
What do we do?
Where do we go
inside ourselves?
The freedom of knowing
nine-to-five ain’t everything
Let weekend us show up on Monday
and never ever leave
