Typewriter Rodeo: The Lege Is Back

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Texas lawmakers have reconvened at the State Capitol Building for the start of the 86th Legislative Session. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

The Lege Is Back

It’s winter-ish in Texas

And two long years have passed

The Capitol building prepares to welcome

This, it’s newest class

The senators and reps arrive

And with them, all their crew

Who run the bustling offices

Who send the bills on through

Endless meetings to be had

And friendships to creat

As the capitol becomes the beating heart

Of our vast Lone Star State

From its rosy crested dome

To the hinges on each door

The Capitol building sparkles

From Rotunda to gleaming floor

And so we cheer them, hard at work

Writing legislative tomes

Spending endless days and nights

In the Capitol, our Texas home
