As President Donald Trump pledged to crack down on violence at recent protests against police brutality happening across the country, he highlighted an incident caught on video in Dallas. About it, he said “innocent people have been savagely beaten like the young man in Dallas, Texas, who was left dying on the street.”

But did that actually happen the way he described it?

Madlin Mekelburg with PolitiFact Texas evaluated Trump’s claim. His quote, from a speech made in the White House Rose Garden, referenced a graphic viral video clip shared on the president’s Twitter account. It showed a man being beaten by a crowd and lying motionless on the street. But Mekelburg told Texas Standard host David Brown that the clip does not show the events leading up to and following the altercation.

See how Trump’s claim scored in the player above.
