No one can tell you what your life will look like 20 years from now, but if you want to see what your neighborhood would, the “Mapping America Project” by the Urban Institute is an interactive map you should toggle with.
Besides population change, you can also look at the changing trends in race and age for each area.
In Texas particularly, we will be hearing more “y’all”s soon enough.
“We see pretty substantial growth coming to Texas based on recent trends. Another seven million people sort of coming to Texas one way or another…So that’s a 28% increase in the population in Texas,” said Rolf Pendall, the Director of the project.
“[It is] substantially higher than the national average,” he added.
Austin will see the greatest percentage increase among the four metropolitan areas of Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio. It will have welcomed almost a million more people when 2030 comes, or a 55% increase in population.
This is compared to San Antonio, which will see 600,000 more people. The city is roughly the same size as Austin, said Pendall.
Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston will both see an average of two million more people living in their already sprawling metropolis. However, their percentage increases are lower than Austin’s.
In general, the future of U.S.A will be very different from the present.
“The United States is changing in a lot of important ways. We’re getting older, we’re getting more diverse,” said Pendall.
