The first “Farmer’s Almanac” went to press in 1792, when the United States was just 16 years old. The publication offered weather predictions, health remedies and guides to the distances between popular destinations – sort of a Google Maps of the era. The almanac is still being published, now under the name “The Old Farmer’s Almanac,” and with a new edition for 2020.

Ben Kilbridge is a member of the Almanac’s editorial team. He says the current edition combines the folk remedies and calendar notations of the original version, but with updated features.

“We’ve continued to do what’s been good and strong, and we’ve continued to move forward with what people are looking for these days,” Kilbridge says.

Among other updates, readers will find gardening advice and profiles of farmers, he says.

“You can pick up the Almanac any time of the year and you’ll find something new and interesting, and you’ll learn something different,” Kilbridge says.

The Almanac also has a social media presence on Instagram.
