Despite big promises, the SpaceX facility on the Gulf Coast is far from launching rockets

It’s been three years since SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced a rocket launch facility in south Texas. Progress has been slow, despite a commitment that the spaceport be operational by September 2018.

Digital savant Omar Gallaga of the Austin American-Statesman’s 512 Tech says Musk had big plans for the facility in 2014 when he pitched it to state leaders, from whom he wanted financial incentives.
