As wind-energy generation becomes more prominent in Texas, a new report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, or EIA, says that slice of the energy business is more important than some may realize.
Energy insider Matt Smith, director of commodity research at ClipperData, says Texans who promote the state’s oil and gas industry should be just as excited about the strides its making in wind energy.
The EIA report says Texas is the leading producer of wind energy in the U.S. It’s one of four states that, together, produce over half of all wind energy in the country. And over the last three years, Texas alone produced 25% of U.S. wind-generated electricity.
What you’ll hear in this segment:
– How investment in wind has led to Texas’ leadership in the sector
– How much growth in the wind-energy business is the result of government subsidies
– Whether wind energy will ever solve the supply-demand gap
