In the current conversation about the use of police force, one aspect seldom discussed is the fact that Texas law enforcement is arguably in a unique position – Texas is a major national corridor for drugs, weapons, human trafficking, and the criminal gangs that are at the center of it.

Organized crime groups which often operate like corporations: going where the business is, scaling up or down in size, and acting based on impediments or opportunities. That’s why the Texas Department of Public Safety releases an annual update on the status of gang activity. Dallas Morning News crime reporter Tristan Hallman has talks with the Standard about the latest report.
