Sherry Jacobson with the Dallas Morning News reports “Trees are at the root of Dallas area’s ‘wicked bad’ allergy season.”

Why Everyone is Sneezing Right Now:

“There are a lot of trees blooming at the same time. Particularly the maple, mulberry and oak trees right now are just blooming their hearts out and, unfortunately, it makes it hard for a lot of people to breathe.”

Whether This Season is Actually That Much Worse Than Others:

“There’s a national map put out by AccuWeather that shows, in fact, Dallas is in the very very high pollen counts as of yesterday… Just the Northeast corner (of Texas). Almost all of Oklahoma and a good chunk of Arkansas are in the very high pollen area… It’s whether or not your trees try to bloom at the same time.”

Why Some Kids Have it Worst:

“Because they’re playing outdoors in the pollen. They’ll get it on their hands, rub their eyes and, pretty soon, if they’re allergic, everything will be swollen and that’s when they end up at the doctor’s office.”
