General Motors is considering a $1.3 billion expansion to its plant in Arlington. The site is the company’s only full-size SUV factory. And it’s been busy – high demand for vehicles such as the Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon has kept the plant running around the clock in recent months.

The latest overhaul would add 1.2 million square feet of space and 589 additional jobs, according to Reuters.

Micheline Maynard, the Director of the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at the Cronkite School of Journalism joins the Standard to talk about the possible expansion and it could mean for the auto industry.

“This is the only place in the United States where GM builds these big SUVs…It is a gamble but GM seems to think that it’s a manageable gamble.”
