This year, the U.S. Census Bureau will attempt to count every person living in the United States. But some worry that the count in Texas won’t be accurate because the state isn’t paying for any outreach programs to help. As a result, some nonprofits are stepping in.
Celia Cole is CEO of Feeding Texas, one of more than 120 nonprofits that have teamed up to create Texas Counts. Cole says the collective is encouraging everyone to be a “census champion.” That includes joining discussion forums and donating money. It’s all an effort to “ensure that Texas gets its fair share in the next decade.”
