The 28th annual Texas Blueberry Festival will be celebrated this weekend in Nacogdoches. The three-day festival features events, workshops, demonstrations and more, all glorifying the healthy blue fruit.

Beginning Thursday, visitors can take part in the Build a Better Blueberry Crepe workshop hosted by the Nacogdoches Public Library. Friday, there’s a workshop to learn how to make fresh fruit body scrubs.

You can also take a photo walk with nationally-published professional photographer Greg Patterson. The Olde Town Photo Walk attracts visiting shutterbugs with a passion for seeing more of the “Oldest Town in Texas.” The one mile walking tour will feature several historical sites while participants learn how to capture better photos from any camera.

After the photo walk, head over to Festival Park for the annual Blueberry Bluegrass concert. This year’s family-friendly concert will feature the Purple Hulls, the Baker Family, the Blake Brothers and the Sabine River Bend Band. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy beautiful bluegrass music in the park.

On Saturday, downtown Nacogdoches will be hopping with Texas Blueberry Festival activities. After a day of eating blueberry pancakes and participating in the blueberry pie eating contest, zip on over to Zip Nac for Blueberry Festival Friend & Family Fun – race down a 900-foot side-by-side zip line.

The fun continues Saturday night following the festival at Fredonia Brewery for Blues & Brew. Sit out on the patio while listening to The Haggertys, enjoy your favorite craft beer and try the featured Blueberry Crème Ale. Then, on Sunday enjoy brunch beginning at 11 a.m. at one of the local eateries in Nacogdoches.

Local hotels are offering special discounted rates. Plan to stay and play the entire weekend to enjoy the full menu of activities.
