Typewriter Rodeo: Rustler’s Rhapsody

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

You don’t want to break the law in West Texas.

Rustler’s Rhapsody

cattle thievin’s on the rise
you may have heard it told
bandits skulking on the range
once again grow bold
stealing beef right off the hoof
bound for who knows where
leaving just a memory
in our dry and dusty air
but there’s plenty here, in this big state
who like their justice rough
and don’t take time to bother
with a taser or a cuff
so if you’re out there rustlin’
then you just better hope
you’re not caught in West Texas
near an oak tree and a rope
