The annual Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, is back in Las Vegas this week after the pandemic forced organizers to hold an all-virtual event 2021. High-profile exhibitors including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Texas-based AT&T, along with many others did not attend due to ongoing COVID-19 risks. But lots of companies are showing their new gadgets, from giant TVs to a smart dog collar.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga told Texas Standard that CES organizers were determined to hold an in-person show, even after many big companies pulled out.

Highlights from this segment:

– Other companies absent from CES this year include: Mercedes-Benz, Lenovo, BMW, Procter & Gamble and AMD.

– Among many gadgets on display are the world’s first QD-OLED TV from Sony, which combines an OLED screen with quantum dot technology, and John Deere’s fully autonomous tractor.

– Unlike some more fanciful tech, Samsung’s new Galaxy FE phone will be available later this year.
