U.S. Customs and Border Protection said an 8-year-old girl died this week while in custody at a South Texas border station. Few details are known so far about the girl’s identity or cause of death.
“They tried to take her to a hospital, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital,” said James Barragán, politics reporter for the Texas Tribune. “There is going to be an investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility, and we will learn more details, but right now very little is known.”
The death, which was reported Wednesday, comes less than a week after the end of Title 42.
