“In Australia we turn everything into pie,” Pye Brown says. “We have leftovers from the night before, put it in some pastry, put it in the oven. Seems kind of boring. Everybody else’s cuisine is so magical and interesting, and we have meat and pastry, you know, with tomato sauce.”
Brown moved to Austin from Australia three years ago.
“When the Texas Standard interviewed me the first time,” she says, “I was certain it was going to be my year. It was the year of the Pi. So that just also felt like it would make sense that it would be my year. I gave birth to my daughter that year. But it turned into quite a tricky year, financially difficult, difficult for me to find my place in the world. 2018 is the year for Pye in my world.”
