It is back-to-school season and many parents and students are shopping for new technology. For students, finding the right computer is an important part of being able to complete assignments in school. Should shoppers opt for high-powered laptops or simply go with a tablet? According to tech expert Omar Gallaga, that depends on price and academic needs.

Brands like Apple and Microsoft offer a range of laptops and tablets with different prices and abilities. Though, according to Gallaga, brand names and power aren’t necessarily selling points anymore. Gallaga says technology buyers aren’t thinking the same way about computers as they once did. Some students don’t necessarily need an expensive laptop.

“For $400-$500, you can get a pretty powerful tablet that can do a lot of the same things a laptop can,” Gallaga says.
