Democratic state House member Roland Gutierrez once accused fellow Democrat and state Senate candidate Pete Gallego of once cancelling a meeting with the families of those who died in the Sandy Hook School shooting. Is that a fact? Gardner Selby of the Politifact Texas fact-checking team has the answer.

Gutierrez and Gallego were among the candidates in the July special election for the Senate seat that once belonged to convicted felon, Carlos Uresti. Gallego made it to the runoff, which will be held September 18.

During the campaign, Gutierrez sent a fundraising email attacking Gallego’s “cozy relationship with the National Rifle Association” which the mailer said caused Gallego to cancel the meeting with Sandy Hook families.
