This week’s primary elections made for a busy week in Texas politics – and with some races headed into runoffs, the action isn’t over yet.

James Barragán, politics reporter for The Texas Tribune, watched the returns come in one Election Day.

“One of the big surprises was in the railroad commissioner race,” Barragán told Texas Standard.  “Incumbent Wayne Christian couldn’t get out of his crowded field to win the primary outright. And that’s partly because of an oil-and-gas attorney named Sarah Stogner.”

Barragán says readers might know of Stogner because of the campaign video she posted online with herself, semi-nude, on a pump jack. Stogner made the video in an effort to get people to pay attention to her campaign – “and it clearly has worked,” he said.

For more on the primary races headed toward runoffs, including the Republican attorney general race and more, listen to the full interview with Barragán in the audio player above.
