A shaky and limited ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran continues to hold, but another kind of warfare is likely ongoing.
Iran-backed hackers have targeted American infrastructure, including computers that control industrial machines in the United States.
Before the ceasefire, Iran had targeted physical tech outposts in the Middle East and threatened major U.S.-based companies, including Amazon, Apple, Cisco and many more.
Tech expert Omar Gallaga says Iran has not carried out its threats of physical attacks, but hackers have bragged about their successes.
Highlights from this segment:
– Early in the war, Iran threatened to attack U.S. tech companies’ facilities in the Middle East. Facilities at risk included data centers operated by companies providing business services, as well as high-profile consumer firms.
– Hackers say they have compromised an American medical equipment company, as well as the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel.
– One hacker group has announced it will suspend operations during the ceasefire, but another has said it will continue its efforts to break into U.S.-connected computer systems.
