The 2015 MLB playoffs began last night, as the Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees in the American League wild-card game.
The victory lets the Astros move forward in the hunt for a World Series title. Next, they’ll be facing off against the Kansas City Royals in a best-of-five series.
OutsidePitchMLB.com senior writer Gerard Farek says that up until 2005, the Astros had never been in the World Series.
“They’ve been in one World Series since they were born in 1962 and they have yet to win a World Series game,” he says.
Since the Texas Rangers secured a playoff weeks ago, Texas has two shots for a World Series parade, something that has never happened in the Lone Star State.
“We’re lucky enough to get one team in a World Series or a playoffs in a given year – to have two of them in, that’s never happened before,” he says.
