Many holiday gift givers turn to smart home gadgets – from thermostats and doorbells to smart locks and lights that turn on with a voice command – there are lots of devices to choose from. But how do you know which are the best options, and whether the ones you choose will work with tech already installed?
Tech expert Omar Gallaga took a look at what’s new in smart home gadgets. He told Texas Standard that devices that provide a central hub for your home are popular right now.
Highlights from this segment:
– Google and Amazon sell hub devices that include screens. They can control other devices, respond to voice commands, play videos and more.
– Home security and camera devices are increasingly popular among those who already use smart home products.
– A coalition of companies, including Google, Amazon, Apple and many more, has formed Matter, a group that’s working to create standards for smart home devices, so that buyers won’t have to worry about which ecosystem their new purchase is a part of.
