The number of gun deaths – not including suicides – number about 1,000 a year in Texas. That number has been relatively flat between 2008 and 2017.

Nationally, many American cities report that gun homicides are on the decline. But Durham, North Carolina saw its homicides rise in 2019, leaving residents to cope with what they feel is chronic violence. But the new year has provided the community a chance to reflect, and recommit to the future.
