The often-cited statistic is that Texas is growing by 1,000 people per day, give or take.
The population spike in the last 10 years is courtesy of the technology and oil & gas industries, plus the concerted effort of state leaders to attract businesses and their workers into the state.
Matt Largey, news editor of KUT Austin, talks to the Standard about Manor, a city east of the Texas capital, is experiencing growth by more than 500 percent.
“It’s got a small little downtown area, old Highway 20 runs through it,” he says. “They’ve got a small grid-like area that they call ‘Old Manor,’ but that’s not exactly where a lot of the population growth is happening.”
