Typewriter Rodeo: Cupcake wrapper

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Cupcake wrapper

crumpled and folded into eighths,
haphazard,
a blanket thrown onto the couch, or
the beak of an origami crane, or
yesterday’s one-more-wear-left jeans, or
a draft that didn’t quite make a basket, or
a leaf whose skeleton is barely
hanging on, or
a costume in the wings after a
quick change, or
a deflated paddleboard, or
a note tucked carefully between
PB&J and fruit snacks, or
a month-old CVS receipt for just
cough drops, or
legs twisted into eagle pose, one
hovering above yoga mat, or
a pile of kelp left by the tide, or
the twist inside your stomach when
something exciting is about to
happen, or

A photo of the typewritten poem on a torn half-sheet of light yellow paper.
