Typewriter Rodeo: Grocery Store Grackles

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Grocery Store Grackles

Perhaps you’re walking

Down aisle five

When a falpping whoosh

Catches your eye

Maybe you’re selecting

This week’s meat

When you hear a chirp

Or was it a cheep?

And there, in the rafters

Just chilling and preening

A bird (or seven)

(This place could use some cleaning)

And as they swoop above

Do a quick “caw-caw”

You realize yeah this place

Really does have it all

Groceries’ toiletries and birds

Make this place complete

And of course you’d nest here —

There’s always plenty to eat.
