Typewriter Rodeo: Summer in TX

Each week, the Texas Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on a relevant headline or topic.

2015 had been a pretty temperate summer but, now, it’s hot — darn hot! That was the inspiration for this week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem by Sean Petrie.

SUMMER IN TX

For a blink it’s spring

Wildflowers and rains

And then — boom!

Summer’s back here again

Melty-soft pavement

And a/c a humming

Got chocolate in your car?

It’ll soon be a gumming

Slather on sunscreen

Holy mercury it’s hot!

Circle round and round

For that one shady spot

June, July and August

How much higher can it get?

And most important of all —

Is it football season yet?
