Typewriter Rodeo: The Grouchy Cat That Only Likes One Person

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Grouchy is in the eye of the beholder, especially if you are not the cat’s chosen one. What is her own perspective?

The Grouchy Cat That Only Likes One Person

I take offense to it

The title, that is

Calling me grouchy

When clearly I am

Discerning

Not willing to abide

any old human interaction

And patiently (usually) waiting for just the absolute best

of human interactions

That is with the one human

I have decided is worthy of my approval

Now the rest of them

The noisy ones and the goopy ones

The ones who deign to grab my glorious whiskers

Yes.

They might consider me grouchy

But is truth I just consider them

Not yet ready for the fabulousness of me.
