Wells Dunbar is the senior audience and engagement producer for Texas Standard, where he breaks news and curates opinions with an intuitive understanding of how audiences engage across platforms. From live election coverage to the latest story percolating on Reddit, Wells brings listeners a uniquely Texas lens on opinion, news, and (counter)culture.
A longtime Austin resident, Wells shares what Texans are talking about through his daily audience-driven segments, community callouts, and the Standard’s two weekly newsletters. He’s also produced stories on everything from punk bands in the borderlands to immersive fantasy taverns in East Austin. He’s hosted forums, participated in panels, and traveled with the Standard to the Houston Rodeo, the State Fair of Texas, the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, and his hometown of El Paso.
Previously, Wells served as online and social media editor for KUT News and covered Central Texas politics and policy for The Austin Chronicle. He’s also reported on everything from film to design to the Texas Legislature as a freelance writer. His interests include obsolete media formats, weird regional history, crushingly heavy music, and spending time with his wife, children, and their dog.
