There’s an ongoing trend of peer-to-peer goods sharing sweeping the nation. Now, many Texas cities are creating policies for the companies, especially ride sharers like Uber and Lyft. That was the inspiration for Typewriter Rodeo’s David Fruchter as he wrote this week’s poem.
Disrupting My Ride
half the people
demanding to be served
the other half
scrambling to serve them
just to stay alive
we like to call it
the sharing economy
huge companies
pretending not to be the bosses
but raking it in
like they are
and politicians racing to see
who can bow and scrape the hardest
before them
while still maintaining a thin facade
of public accountability
it’s “optional”, you see
and if you’re on the lucky side
and you want to feel like a
big winner
from the master class
just for the night
well
there’s an app for that
