Typewriter Rodeo: Restart

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

The Typewriter Rodeo team turns out original poetry on request. This one was inspired by someone asking for an eclipse-theme poem about divorce.

Restart

The day is supposed
to start
With a 7am sunrise,
the sun steady, strong
till it
s
e
ts around 8.
But sometimes, rarely,
the world goes
dark
at lunchtime,
the next normal step
blocked by
a black, unknowing sky.
But don’t hover inside, hiding –
we run out into open fields
waiting
for
a
rare chance
to re-start the day,
to restart
a life
in a whole new
glorious
light.
