Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller recently shared a photo on Facebook that appears to show a National Guard sergeant. The soldier in the photo won a Silver Star Medal for bravery in Iraq. Is that a fact? Madlin Mekelburg of the PolitiFact Texas fact-checking team has the answer.

Leigh Ann Hester served in Iraq in 2005. She was the first woman since World War II to be awarded the Silver Star. She earned the medal after being ambushed in Iraq and killing three enemy combatants at close quarters. Miller’s Facebook post describes Hester’s actions, and includes a photo that purports to show her.

Hear how Sid Miller’s claim scored in the player above.
