China has slapped tariffs on 128 American products in retaliation for a similar move by the Trump administration.
Among them are ethanol, scrap aluminum and steel pipe.
The value of those combined commodities amounts to about $400,000 worth of exports to China every year, Patrick Jankowski, regional economist with the Greater Houston Partnership, said.
“That sounds like a lot, but we export $7.7 billion worth of goods to China,” he said. “You do the math, it’s around five percent of our exports to China that are going to be impacted by these tariffs.”
