When Hurricane Harvey came to Beaumont, many people lost access to food and other necessities. Pine Street Market is the only grocery store in its neighborhood, and it was open during the storm. Alexis Provo made sure her customers had bread, meat, water – whatever they needed.
“Some people, especially at the store were so grateful nothing happened to us,” she says. “But at the same time, my heart goes out to those people who literally lost everything.”
She says it felt good to be able to help her neighbors.
“It put a lot on me to think ‘you’re doing something for somebody else, and not just yourself,'” Provo says.
